This morning ESPN broke the news that the New England Patriots and Bill Belichick have parted ways after 24 seasons. Belichick and his “Do Your Job” philosophy were behind the Patriot’s dominance in the NFL, especially in the AFC East division for two decades.

Belichick departs the Patriots with one year remaining on his contract. He and Patriots owner, Robert Kraft are expected to hold a news conference this afternoon.

For quite some time, New England Patriots fans and reporters have questioned Belichick's techniques as general manager. However, there are no questions regarding Belichick’s leadership success. Under Belichick, the Patriots won 17 division titles, nine conference championships, and six Super Bowl titles. He coached multiple players that helped him create the Patriots winning dynasty. They included Troy Brown, Willie McGinest, Ty Law, Tedy Bruschi, Julian Edelman, Wes Welker, Randy Moss, Tom Brady, and Rob Gronkowski. Brady was quarterback for all six of the Patriots’ Super Bowl titles.

In the past four years, the Patriots have only made it to the playoffs once. The 2023 season was a disaster for the Patriots, leading fans and reporters to suggest that Kraft should fire Belichick in the middle of the regular season. However, Belichick coached the remainder of the 2023 season with a 4-13 record, leaving the Patriots with the third pick in the 2024 NFL draft, and many questions about Belichick's future with the organization.

Belichick’s departure from the Patriots comes as the NFL has seen multiple coaches being fired and parting ways with teams. This includes the Atlanta Falcons firing Arthur Smith, Washington Commanders firing Ron Rivera, Tennessee Titians firing Mike Vrabel, and Seattle Seahawks firing Pete Carroll

As we wait to hear from Robert Kraft and Bill Belichick, the big question is who will be the next head coach of the New England Patriots.
